What Is It?
Q. How exactly does Photo Rejuvenation therapy work?
A. Photo Rejuvenation uses pulses of visible therapeutic light that encompass many wavelengths. This broad wavelength spectrum ensures that the light's energy is delivered to all layers of the skin. Photo Rejuvenation treatments, which last about 30 minutes, work on the principle that light is absorbed by color and that light generates heat. Though this heat is not enough to hurt you, it is strong enough to damage the vein, capillary or pigmented skin area you wish to minimize. Over a series of treatments, the discoloration slowly disappears, leaving a clear patch of skin.
This Photo Rejuvenation stimulation also increases natural collagen and elastin production. As the cells are continuously activated, the collagen comes to the surfaces, filling in fine lines and wrinkles and plumping the skin.
Q. Are there other benefits to Photo Rejuvenation therapy?
A. Yes. Photo Rejuvenation therapy increases blood circulation and oxygenation, thus hydrating the skin's surface. When new cells come to the surface, old, damaged cells are shed, repairing sun damage and age spots, reducing pore size and helping calm rosacea (though there is no known cure for rosacea).
Q. Where did IPL originate?
A. There are many theories, most attributed to Europe. In America, the science of light therapy has been practiced for more than a quarter-century. It is being used in the NASA space program (with no reported side effects) in the treatment of jaundice, wounds, cuts, burns, and to alleviate various types of pain.
However, the lights for the Youth Light wand are configured for cosmetic processes only. Our Cosmetologists and Aestheticians are not licensed medical practitioners and so only administer surface treatments. Most, if not all, cosmetology boards have issued opinions stating that because Photo Rejuvenation treatments are both non-invasive and non-ablative, they require no special licensing. Thus they are approved for cosmetic use without such special licensing.
Q. Where can I research Photo Rejuvenation Therapy?
A. There is a huge amount of data on the World Wide Web. You can find articles in Biophonitics International (Oct. 2000), Popular Science (April 2000), and National Geographic (Jan. 2001), as well as a multitude of magazine articles that have been recently published due to the advent of Photo Rejuvenation Therapy for cosmetic purposes.
Why Choose Photo Rejuvenation Therapy and, Specifically, Youthlight?
Q. What are some of the advantages of the YouthLight machine over other Photo Rejuvenation systems?
A. There are many advantages to the YouthLight machine, but highlights include an affordable treatment price as the number one advantage. YouthLight will work on people of all skin colors. It is also one of the few machines that is effective on people taking either Retin-A or Accutane for certain skin conditions.
Q. Are there other Photo Rejuvenation systems in the market place?
A. Yes, but most other systems are based on lasers. This presents safety issues that require administration by a licensed medical doctor.
Q. I have been receiving Microdermabrasion treatments. Will Photo Rejuvenation affect these treatments?
A. Photo Rejuvenation will complement Microdermabrasion, along with any other types of cosmetic treatments, including the N Light, Botox, collagen injections, previous plastic surgery and various laser treatments. Photo Rejuvenation has a "calming effect" on the skin.
Q. Can the YouthLight Photo Rejuvenation system hurt you?
A. NO! There are no adverse side effects whatsoever. Some skin care products that may be used in conjunction with Photo Rejuvenation treatments could cause allergic reactions, so it's advisable to consult first with your skin specialist.
Q. Will Photo Rejuvenation therapies work in all climates?
A. Yes. However, reports indicate that it works better in cold climates, due to the innate dryness of the air. Hydration of the skin, which occurs during Photo Rejuvenation, produces normal moisture balance.
Who Benefits?
Q. Who will benefit most from Photo Rejuvenation treatments? A. Photo Rejuvenation will work on most people. YouthLight will be most effective on 30 to 55-year-old "Baby Boomers," whose general age and skin condition makes them the candidates with the most to gain from such treatments. Typically, the older the person, the more treatments will be needed, depending on skin condition.
Q. Will Photo Rejuvenation therapy work on all types of people?
A. There isn't any machine, system or treatment that will work on everyone. However, it is estimated that Photo Rejuvenation will work on over 90% of the population. For those looking for a non-invasive, minimal risk solution without any down time, it is ideal.

When Should I Consider YouthLight Treatments?
Q. Will Photo Rejuvenation therapy remove age spots from my hands and other parts of my body?
A. Yes, for most people. The hands will take longer than other parts of the body, because they are located so close to the bone. Hands are mostly made up of skin, veins and cartilage, without much fat or other natural moisture-storing cells. YouthLight has also been found to help women minimize the V Neck syndrome.
Q. Are there conditions that Photo Rejuvenation therapy will not help?
A. Yes. It is not a substitute for cosmetic surgery. It will not help baggy or sagging skin. It will not cure puffiness around the eyes. It will not remove bumpy moles, but may be able to remove their pigmentation. It can lighten freckling, but if the freckling is genetic, it will reappear. It will not remove deep parallel blood vessels normally seen on the lower cheeks.
The rule of thumb we use is: Anything that appears on the skin originating from external sources (from the top down) can be removed over time. Any growths, pigmentations, etc. originating internally (from the skin up), such as birth and beauty marks, cannot be removed with YouthLight.
How Many, How Long, How Often, How Much?
Q. How long do the treatments take? A. The average treatment takes approximately 30 minutes, if not there special preparations are needed.
Q. How soon will I see results?
A. Most people will see results after the first treatment. All people will feel the results of a softer, smoother skin that is tighter, more hydrated and has a healthy, glamorous-looking glow.
Q. How many treatments will I need to obtain desired results?
A. This is a question only your skin care specialist can answer. The amount of treatments you may need will depend on many factors. Some of these include: age, skin condition, sun damage, and whether or not you smoke. Like all other similar treatments, YouthLight procedures are progressive in nature, meaning each one builds on the previous results.
Q. How often can I safely schedule a Photo Rejuvenation treatment?
A. As wonderful as YouthLight is, you can have too much of a good thing. We suggest 10-day to 2-week intervals. Some technicians wait as long as 3 weeks. For optimum results, you must give your skin cells time to regenerate. Overuse is counter-productive!
Q. How much improvement can I expect to see over the course of my treatment series?
A. Typically 75-90% improvement will be seen in most individuals.
Q. Will I be able to go back to work immediately after Photo Rejuvenation treatment?
A. Yes. YouthLight treatments leave no after-effects at all. This is another of the many advantages of Photo Rejuvenation treatments. You can carry on all of your normal activities, and no one need have any idea you are undergoing treatment.
Q. Once I'm finished with my treatments, will I need to come back?
A. Yes. Again depending on your age, habits and skin condition, you will be put on a maintenance program to maximize the return on your YouthLight investment. This schedule can vary from 30 to 90 days between treatments. Check with your skin care specialist to determine where you fit into that timeline.
Q. Can I take "before and after" pictures to track my progress?
A. Yes, in fact we encourage you to do so, because the results are often dramatic. As professional photographers will tell you, skin can be a tricky subject to photograph well. It's necessary to use a quality camera with good film, or a high-end digital camera, in good lighting conditions to pick up the detail.
Where Can I Get YouthLight Treatments?
Q. Can anyone perform YouthLight Treatments?
A. As previously stated, there is no special license required to operate Photo Rejuvenation systems, but YouthLight will be found only in quality salons and spas with high standards of training, cleanliness and professionalism. Any equipment can be dangerous in the wrong hands, and your health is important. We recommend that you submit to treatment only at the hands of trained and certified skin specialists working in a reputable firm.
